Laughter is the best medicine :)

Ye know how they say laughter is the best medicine? Well I don’t know who ‘they’ are but whoever it was that came up with that phrase had the right idea and it is one of those lines I have been trying to prove for the last year. The last year has proved tough for me for health reasons in particular so with this in mind I have been searching for the things that make me laugh and for this blog I have narrowed it down to those things/people who have made me laugh out loud literally! It was hard but I’ve done it…..just! Enjoy!

The Laughalot Crew

First up is my first encounter of improv comedy. This happened last June with the Laughalot Improv troupe. There is a something rewarding about sitting at a comedy gig while a group of people act out your suggestions on stage. From hilarious games such as Bootleg Movies in which the audience get a “sneak preview” of future movies to Scenes from a Hat which involves the group acting out scenes based on random sentences from the audience, they are a totally unscripted burst of energy on the stage and I laughed right the way through this show. This was my first encounter with improv and created a love of improv in me!

Now I don’t mind interacting with comedians from the stage which is just as well….I think  :) Well the Foil Arms & Hog boys certainly got me involved in a show back a few months ago during a Quiet Pint gig in 4 Dame Lane. Ye all know their App sketch? Well guess who I was…… yep I was PERIOD GIRL! Wohoo! My claim to fame! It’s not easier to try to grab a hand when you are struggling with a notebook and a pen and trying not to let the FAH guy who is coming towards you see it! Apparently he didn’t so clearly I did a good job or he is blind…. That was one very funny night!

I couldn’t write this blog and not include the hecklers worst nightmare Steve Cummins. I have only had the pleasure of seeing Steve’s Cummins in action twice but dear God that man is a genius! There is nothing quite like sitting in a room full of people listening to Steve destroying a heckler! He is kinda famous for it! I am making it my mission to come up with a heckle so good that he can’t reply! Who’s with me??? No one? Fine so! :P

Michael Noone

Michael Noone is a strange man. A very strange but funny man. I went to a gig at the Waterhole Project a while back. He was on the line up. He had no material planned and was going to improv (or wing it depending on what way you would like to think) when he went on stage. At the Waterhole the stage is littered with various objects such a snooker ball triangle and a watering can. This 5 minute set was the funniest 5 minutes I had seen Michael do as he worked his way through the various ‘props’ on the stage – an insight into the mind of a comedian….a very funny but scary minutes! Michael also tells a pretty good poem about Stephen Gately…..

My first time in Anseo was also a memorable experience. I was reviewing a charity gig for Occupy Dame Street in which Jim Elliot and Aidan Killian among others were on the line up. It was at this gig that I was called a prostitute. Yep you read that right. I was called a prostitute. It’s not every day that I am at a gig, never mind REVIEWING that gig that I get called a prostitute….. Now ye may be thinking how I find this funny? Well I found the other people’s reaction in the room funnier! I have no particular problem but the room was shocked and appalled! That was a very funny night! :)

So there ye have it, these guys made me LOL literally over the last year. What are your LOL moments? Let us know in the comments below! :)

More Randomania!

It’s Friday afternoon again, which can only mean one thing… it’s Randomania time here at the comedy scoop! :)

Since we’ve been musical comedy mad this week it seems only fitting to share a hilarious video from Tim Minchin. You gotta love him! And let’s not forget Bill Bailey too :)

Twitter has been its usual funny self this week, some of our favourite tweets were:

“Egrets, I’ve had a few, but then again, too few Tim Minchin.” – Sinatra admits to affairs with river birds to @timminchin

David O’Doherty@phlaimeaux

Facebook hasn’t let the side down either, we’re still giggling over these pics!
