Gig – Inn Jokes November
It’s that time of the month again. And this Wednesday 21st Nov. there’s a cracking line-up taking over The Patriots Inn.
November, the month of moustache-related obsession for a good cause, the month where the comedy world recovers from the blow of America’s failure to elect a strange president, the month where the gates to the Underworld are thrown open and the dead stalk the land and then scuttle back to the Underworld chased by youths with fireworks.
Luckily with all these dark forces mustering, Inn Jokes is here to provide a beacon of funny light.
Foil Arms and Hog
This month sees the long overdue return of Foil Arms and Hog – Ireland’s top sketch group. Fresh from a stint at the Leicester Square Theatre this week and freshish from a very successful return to top form at the Edinburgh Festival, the three lads will have you rolling in the aisles of Inn Jokes. (Well we don’t have aisles so the space near the bar and just in front of the stage. It’s not really suitable for rolling though and we’re not insured for that).
Google ranks them above Foil Insulation when searching for Foil… That’s how big they are. Check out www.foilarmsandhog.ie for other FAHFAQS.Michael Mee
An accomplished veteran of the comedy stage, law-lecturer-and-solicitor-turned-comedian, Mee’s good company as he brings his perfectly composed jokes to the Inn. He was described by Time Out New York as “Woody Allen with an Irish Brogue” And you can see why here
Mee also presents a great music radio show on 2XFM called Pimp My iPod.Our final act David O’Reilly is someone to keep an eye out for. A finalist in a number of comedy competitions this year, David has also gigged all over the UK and Ireland and the States. He has shared a stage with luminaries such as Jack Whitehall and Frankie Boyle and is rapidly gaining a following for his wry observations on the world viewed through the haunted eyes of someone from Cavan.
As ever your host will be Colm O’Regan
To Martha!!
Over the years Guinness have managed to come up with some pretty inventive ways to promote their product, possibly the most notable of all is the popular ‘Arthur’s Day’ which just so happens to be today!
In honour of this ‘prestigious’ event here’s some random Guinness humour courtesy of YouTube!
Review – Cymbology: Foil Arms & Hog @ The ABSOLUT fringe
I hadn’t seen Foil Arms & Hog for a long time and was curious to see their new sketches so it was with a happy anticipation that I entered the International last night. The room was packed, which told me that I was in for a good show! There was a sense of real excitement around the room which is always a good thing at the start of a comedy gig eh?

Driving lessons!
After a somewhat false start (orchestrated of course!), the boys began their show with that good old Catholic tradition of Mass, because you know that’s how every gig should start… Once we were all blessed and had given each other the sign of peace the gig could begin.
I went looking for new stuff and boy did they deliver. From loan sharks and talent shows to the slightly more risky topics such as equal opportunities in the workplace, nothing is out of bounds for the trio. Their range of topics is quite astonishing. They effortlessly flowed from one sketch to the next and looked to be having great craic on stage themselves. It was clear to see that the lads get on really well and they have a fantastic bond which shines through on stage. They love what they do even laughing both during and after their own sketches!
Vodafone Comedy Festival – tired of watching guys tell jokes? then check this out! :)
Now it’s no secret that comedy is subjective and sometimes a man standing on stage telling stories/making one-liner jokes simply isn’t want the audience want. Vodafone are no fools and knowing this they’ve managed to nab a few alternative options for you, aren’t they nice!
Foil, Arms and Hog bring a fast-past mix between sketch comedy and stand-up to the stage. With their wickedly twisted characters, unpredictable scenes and high energy performances it’s no wonder they have a loyal cult following already. See them yourself on Thurs 26th @7.30pm (Joke Shop)
“Eleanor Tiernan is a beautiful smart woman from Athlone Co. Roscommon, this confuses most people because they think Athlone is in Westmeath. Some of it is. Eleanor wants to clear up the confusion and make people laugh”. Help her in this mission by heading along to her show in the Iveagh Gardens on Thurs 26th @7.30pm (Joke Shop).
Maeve Higgins has conducted some informal research to see who would most enjoy her quirky show. “If you enjoy cycling, confectionary and chat parties they you are one of those people.” Catch her live on Thurs26th @7.30pm (Comedy Hub) or Fri28th @7.30pm (Cherry Top).
