Review – Pecha Kucha @ The Cat Laughs comedy festival

Much like I image you are doing right now when I first heard this show was coming to The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny all I could think was ‘What on earth is that??’ Thankfully David O’Doherty was on hand on the evening to explain all. Pecha Kucha is a Japanese presentation methodology, most often used by architects, in which speakers have just 20 seconds to speak about each of 20 slides of their own choosing.

Definitely not your average stand up show right?

The venue was jam-packed as the first ‘speaker’ Colm O’Regan took to the stage. Sharing slides primarily focused on hilarious words of wisdom that only @irishmammies can bestow upon us, Colm seemed very at ease using the technology based format and it really helped the audience relax into the evening’s entertainment.

Jarlath Regan was next to take on the Pecha Kucha challenge with a very funny selection of his reasons to live in the country rather than in Dublin city. Jarlath didn’t think he’d manage to stick to the 20 second time limit per slide as he’s not generally a quick talker but he surprised himself and kept the audience laughing throughout his presentation without falling behind at all :)

Not your average Laughing Cat!

It seems the Cat Laughs Festival folks figured handing you a host of individual comedians to choose from simply wasn’t enough and so we have our final collection of Cat Laughs events. All of these are slightly different and well worth a gander if you fancy a break from straight up stand up!

Catapalooza is a brand new show with the best musical comedy acts of the Festival. Hosted by the amazing Fred Cooke and starring rapper comedian Doc Brown and everybody’s favourite skanger making a break from Dublin’s Northside Damo! This is a standing only gig with late bar.
Good Nite Cats is our finale performance, chockas with special guests.
‘Do you have a son working in something to do with computers’?, ‘Had you to ask the young one in the shop to put the credit on the phone’? Did you ‘have the pavlova’? Colm O’Regan, creator of the @irishmammies Twitter phenomenon, brings the world of the Irish Mammy to life in a unique and dotey way. Make sure you bring along your own Irish Mammy to the world premiere of Ireland’s Got Mammies at the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. Warning – this show may be best accompanied with tea and a bun. ‘Well I got an awful land to hear he was doing a show. And him with a degree and all’ @irishmammies
