10 days in Dublin – A pre show natter with Priscilla Dinan
In the first of our pre show natters, we corner Priscilla Dinan to chat about her debut show and what job she just wouldn’t do!
So Priscilla where did the idea for the show come from?
Every job I’ve ever had really. I suppose it’s been bubbling away under the surface over the years. My twenties were spent in a permanent state of disbelief at the BS I’ve had to subscribe to within the confines of employment. I’ve had days in the office, where a manager would say or do something so ridiculous, I’d have to step outside for air. One day I just thought – I have to share this with people. It can’t be just me.
Oh. Did I mention I have a problem with authority?
Are you taking your show on the road this year at all?
It all depends on how well it’s received Sunday! I’d love to and if I do, it’ll be sometime after September. I’m trying to convince myself to do nothing between the show date and the end-of-summer marker that is Electric Picnic but I have a seriously hard time sitting still.
We may see you pitching a tent sometime soon then. What are your thoughts on the 10 days in Dublin festival?
I think it’s fantastic. I really try to adhere to the whole “DIY” work ethic which is why this particular festival appealed to me. What Dan and Rob are doing is a case in point. It has such a diverse programme. It’s amenable to lesser known or debut acts such as myself. And most of all, it’s a friendly, encouraging, open platform for performers, aided by the support of the organisers. I can’t wait.
What job would you least like to do?
I’ve done it, I’d say. A million times over. That said, I don’t think I could do debt collection (unless it was from one of the suited villains that make daily appearances in the news).
Poultry debeaking would be pretty fowl (!) as well. (Sorry. I couldn’t resist!)
If you would like to check out Priscilla and her many many jobs, you can do so on July 8th in Whelan’s at 7.30pm for €5!
