Sit back, relax and don’t dare change the channel!
Now I’m not sure why on earth you’d stay in and watch tv when the 10days in Dublin festival is still going strong but if you do happen to be in need of a giggle from the comfort of your couch then you’re in luck because it’s not just Sky Atlantic who are bringing new comedy to the small screen! Comedy Central have 2new comedy series starting this week and I for one am pretty excited to see them both!
First up we have ‘How to be a Gentleman’ which starts tonight at 9pm. Inspired by the book of the same name ‘How to be a Gentleman’ is a brand new comedy about the unlikely friendship between a traditional, refined writer and a rough-around-the-edges personal trainer. It stars Andrew, (David Hornsby) the etiquette columnist whose devotion to ideas from a more civilised time has led to a life detached from modern society, and Bert (Kevin Dillon) the asshole from Andrew’s past who inherited a fitness centre and hasn’t grown up one bit. When Andrew’s editor Jerry (Dave Foley) tells him to make his column more modern and sexy or face a firing, he hires Bert as a life coach in the hope he’ll learn to be a little less ‘gentle man’ and more a ‘real man’. Add into the mix living comedy legend Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords), Diane Lenehan (Malcolm in the Middle) and Chloe from 24 (Mary Lynn Rajskub), and that’s ‘How to be a Gentleman’ in a nutshell. Sounds like a character combination that’s bound to result in hilarity, but you’ll just have to watch it yourself to see if succeeds where so many sitcoms fail and makes you laugh out loud!
Comedy Central’s second offering ‘Whitney’ started last Tuesday at 9pm. Starring Whitney Cummings, comedian, actor and the bright star who also created the hit sitcom 2 Broke Girls, this new comedy revolves around Whitney (and her live-in boyfriend Alex (Chris D’Elia, Glory Daze), a happily unmarried couple. They’ve been together for three years and are in no rush to get hitched…which gets a mixed response from their friends. Zoe Lister-Jones (The Other Guys), Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock) Rhea Seehorn (The Starter Wife) and Dan O’Brien (How I Met Your Mother) star as the duo’s mates. With a cast like that there’s bound to be no shortage of funny gags and rib-tickling moments!
Finally I can’t ignore the fact that New Girl will be returning to E4 tomorrow Tuesday 10th July. Now I fell in love with this show when it started a few months ago so I’m thrilled that it’s back on our screens to complete season 1 at last! The show stars Jess, an offbeat young woman, who after a bad break-up, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her – most of the time… With a cast that includes Zooey Deschanel, Jake M. Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone each episode revolves around the developing relationships between the unlikely roommates. Most of the funniest moments come from Jess’ and her quirky approach to life but the chemistry between the group is what holds your attention from one episode to the next!
So there you have it, there’s no excuse for ye not to spend your evenings laughing!
Enjoy!
